Sometimes it works as it should. However, often it does not. I have not detected a pattern. When I invoke standby, the screen sometimes turns off, but the computer and fan do not stop. I have to turn off the computer and reboot.

I'd appreciate any suggestions to solve this problem.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Yes, I did see that page, but did not find anything there. Thanks.

I did try something today that someone recommended: I turned off the power saving mode of the Atheros WiFi. So far, that seems to have solved the problem.

I had the problem of my AAO not coming out of StandBy mode about every 5th time.
I got the BIOS updated by the Acer repair centre but this did not solve the problem. (Aside: It did give me more 'range' in the screen brightness :) )

    I found this Thread here:
    viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1393&start=10

The problem seems to be the 'Acer Crystal Eye webcam' that comes installed on the Acer or maybe just some Acers
The solution is to switch to the 'USB Composite Device' which I believe is the standard Windows camera
Since doing this procedure I have tested it at least 50 times, over 5 days, under all sorts of conditions. USB Mouse connected, web page loading, manual standby, time standby etc and it works a treat every time.
I also had a look at myself using Skype and the 'USB Composite Device' works fine (thought I was going to say "and I look good", didn't you :D ) After all I'm not making a movie, just chatting ;)

Here is the procedure I used:

    1) Start
    2) My Computer
    3) View System Information
    OR 1) + 2) + 3) = Fn + F2
    4) Hardware
    5) Device Manager
    6) Expand: 'Imaging Devices'
    7) Right Click: 'Acer Crystal Eye webcam' Select: 'Update Driver'
    8) Select: 'No, not this time'
    9) Select: 'Install from specific location'
    10) Select: 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install'
    11) Select: 'USB Composite Device'
    12) Restart the computer (you should be prompted to restart)

    NOTE:
    After doing this procedure:
Start > My Computer will show 'USB Video Device' under 'Scanners and Cameras'
Expanding 'Imaging Devices' (step# 6) will show 'USB Video Device'

Acer Crystal Eye Webcam will now appear under 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' (the list in 'Device Manager' step# 5)
If you wish to re-enable the Acer Crystal Eye Webcam then follow the procedure from Step 7)

All the best, woz of oz

Thanks for the link. I missed that thread when I searched. My Aspire One cam does have that driver. If my Standby problem reoccurs, I will swap it for the generic driver as you suggest.

I purchased one last week (hard drive model) and it doesn't go into standby consistently either. I've tried everything, tried changing the wireless adapter power saving mode to off (from maximum). Tried Bios upgrade to the latest 3309 or something like that. Tried the A1Ctl fan control with patched driver and all options (including the hard drive click fix) and it seems to work a little better, but still won't usually go into standby.

The function key for standby works fine and every time coming out of standby works fine (using keyboard or power button).

Screen blanking works fine just not standby, have hibernate turned off.

    Any other suggestions?

    After one month

About a month ago, I turned off the power saving mode of the Atheros WiFi in an attempt to get more reliable standby. It seems to have worked. I still get occasional standby problems, but they are rare now.
