    Hi
I have my aspire one on order to arrive on Thursday but it will come with linus on and I want to load on windows XP, I have borrowed an external CD Drive from work, so my question is can I just boot from this using the supplied windows xp disk on a normal PC/Notebook and then once it is all loaded on install all the drivers from the acer website?
    Thanks for any help

You can, though I would suggest making your own driver cd with all the drivers from the website on it, I found it made life easier :)

Yes, that will work. I hope you have the drivers already, as the XP installation CD does not contain the drivers for the wireless. I can't recall 100% if it had the LAN drivers though. In any case, get them before you install XP. I'd also recommend you install an antivirus before you have network connectivity. If you want free, AVG or Avira are good options (I find Avira uses less resources but has annoying popups from time to time).

To save time in the future, I'd recommend you make an image of the XP installation right after it is installed (before drivers and programs). You can use driveimageXML (part of the ultimate Boot CD 4 windows which can be loaded from USB key!)

I too have an Aspire One with 120 gb hard drive and linpus installed, I tried to install xp pro, and kept getting a blue screen with error and technical information that stop: 0x0000007b (x0f8999630, 0xc000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

This are the steps that I took before installing xp pro:

    1) in Linpus terminal, I ran the following command:
    [root@localhost user]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1

I run that command, it display the following:

    1+0 records in
    1+0 records out
    512 bytes (512 B) copied, 7.2011e-05 s, 7.1 MB/s

    2) boot dos 7.1 with usb stick, run fdisk to create the full size partition
    3) unplug usb stick after fdisk completed, powered off
    4) plug in usb stick powered up to boot dos 7.1
    5) format c: drive, when completed, unplug usb stick and powered off
    6) connect usb cd rom with windows xp pro disk, boot up with cd rom
    7) Installation disk start inspecting & loading drivers, after a few minutes and begin setup that was where the blue screen of death appeared.

I have tried the above with other tools to remove the Linpus reserved partition and it still failed with the same technical information. Will appreciate any help from any one who have success in moving up to xp pro.

Will be glad if you could share with me your success in installing xp pro.

    Hi Sohtee,
I get exactly that same error message whilst using the Installation method recommended in the the topic "How to: Install XP From USB memory stick/Flash drive". If you find a way round it I'd very much like to hear about it - if I manage it first I'll let you know.
