Hi I have three versions of linux on different machines so have some experience but .... My Aspire One ran for a couple of months wireless. It picked up my HP wireless printer no problem but I had to download Thunderbird to use email as it won't send email using Acer's own email client.
Last night my Aspire One froze whilst I was doing a search on the internet. I had to switch it off. I booted up several times and it froze every time I tried to connect to the internet. So I ran the recovery disc. Now it won't connect to the internet but does not freeze. The Ethernet connection works and all my other laptops connect wirelessly.
When I run New Connection my router present in 'Wireless Connection List' but eventually the connection times out with error message 'The Network Connection has been disconnected'.
I have entered the IP address and DSN manually to no avail.
In a terminal I typed: /sbin/service network restart and got: Device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying its initialization. FATAL: module ivp6 not found.
I got a similar message with sudo /etc/init.d/network restart
I have been googling ivp6 but can't find a solution.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Had similar symtpoms and never managed to fix it. I was convinced the wireless card must be broken. In the end installed limpus from recover usb and everything was fine again. Very annoying to loose all my configurations.

    Re: wireless broken? update

I have got a reply from Acer Europe
"We have been made aware of the network icon issue in Linpus Linux, and have been provided with a temporary workaround, while the software vendor investigates this issue. Please follow the steps below:
    1. Open the terminal by ALT+F2 and then type "terminal" =>RUN
    2. Run mv ~/.gconf/system/networking ~/ to clear all root network connections
There is one space between mv and ~ and one space between networking and ~

After doing this, it will not have ANY network connections that may have been previously setup in Network Manager.
Reboot the computer and the network icon will appear. You will need to reconfigure your network again."

When I do the above I get mv: cannot stat /root/.gconf/system/networking : No such file or directory

When I enter the code sudo su - then hit return and do the above I get
    mv: overwrite /root/networking?
Code Yes I get the repsonse
Mv: cannot move /root/system/networking to /root/networking : Directory not empty.

Anyone else tried it or have any ideas on it?
    Cheers

"/root/.gconf/system/networking : No such file or directory"
Off the top of my head I would say that "/root" should not be there but "~/".

    Fixed
Hi, I returned the unit to place of purchases - another time waster.
I bought a new modem router (Netgear DGNB2100). Switched on AA1 and got it set up for wireless connection in seconds. Email client now works as well. 1 guess the AA1 does not like my old D-Link G604T modem router.
