    Hello,
A friend's Acer Aspire One {Linux ver} has been working fine.
    Recent difficulty.
Not connecting to the wireless router.

I have ask friend to wire up acer via ethernet and try to make connection.

Any idea as to what I should also suggest?

Apparasntly the wireless connection has only recently stopped.
I am not sure of the correct procedures for the Linux OS.

    Help.

    Best Wishes,

    Okay
    So I boot up. Preferences
Click on Network Center but nothing happens.

Can someone please point me to the procedure to connect to a wireless router.
Can I add a USB wifi dongle?

Would it be better to start afresh with a new installation of the OS.
I'm sure someone could point me to a download.

I am a beginner with the linux systems. That said I have been working with dos since 1987.

    Thank you.

You have checked that the WiFi adapter hasn't been disabled with the switch ?

    Hello D,

I have just found the switch.
    Apologies.
I will make sure I point it out to my mate.
    Light on - wifi on.

    I hope it works.
    Many thanks,
    s.

Don't worry, no need for apologies - You and your mate aren't the first and won't be the last persons who didn't check the obvious things first. I've been called out on a tech support call that involved a planeride from Copenhagen, Denmark to Zagreb, Yugoslavia (pre-balkan wars) and back, just to plug in the electrical cord for the 3270 terminal :D
You can bet that the employee there had a lot of explaining to do, when the inter-company invoice reached the regional manager.

    Back again.

    The router is a D-link.
It is coonected via the ethernet to a desktop PC.
the Acer is one of three laptops which also use the router.

All 4 PC's were connecting correctly.

At the moment niether the Acer nor the lappie with the dongle isn't connecting.

On Acer wifi light is on but no change on the toolbar and connection not made.

Any idea as to what I should try?

    Many thanks,
    s.
