I'm unable to access my wireless network with my brand new Aspire One (Linux).
I can see and select my network (SSID) from the list and I enter my 128-bit
WEP key AND Security Type but the system will not connect.

I'm able to access the network with another Acer notebook (3680) that uses the Atheros chipset.
Since I'm using WEP with a shared key, I've had to use IWPRIV on the 3680 while running either Ubuntu or Mandriva Spring 2008 to add additional wireless parameters because of the Atheros chipset.

Does the Aspire One require these extra parameters be added manually or does it handle this automatically?
I've entered 'iwpriv ath0 authmode 2' from the commandline and restarted networking but still no luck.
I'm not familiar with Linpus Lite so excuse my lack of knowledge on this distribution

Also, I've verifed that wireless is enabled on the Aspire One toggle button on the front.

    Any help would be appreciated.

First of all thanks to Sid for replying to my post.
    I appreciate the input.

I was able to get my Aspire One to work on my wireless network intermittently by configuring
the Aspire One to use a static IP instead of using a dynamic address via the Network Manager GUI.
I did not have to enter any iwpriv commands via the terminal.
Unfortunately, I was only able to get it to work once every 9 or 10 attempts if that many.

Today, I decided to try setting the Security Type to Open instead of Shared Key and
now my wireless connects every time using a static ip or dynamically via DHCP.

I tried the same as you, WEP with open and shared security type networks, same results, open is much better.
My AP is an Apple airport extreme.

I tried all of this post's suggestions but I am not able to connect via WEP at all. I had to remove encryption altogether to connect to the internet. I configured MAC filtering to provide some level of security. I figured it's just as insecure as WEP anyway.

I have a wireless problems using WEP encryption too. Once configured and connected my One is unable to connect to my wifi connection again after reboot/powerup/sleep. I found a method to get connected again. But I need to repeat that method after each reboot/powerup.

Right click taskbar network icon >> Preferences >> Uncheck Automatic connection.

Left click taskbar network icon >> Connection Manager

if the One is still trying to connect then click disconnect else edit it. Change security from shared to open and finish. Try connecting and disconnect after a second or so.
Now edit your connection again and change security back to shared and connect again. the One connects again.

Note that I use a manually created connection. You might need to do so too.

My best guess is that the wireless driver doesn't shutdown the hardware properly when using WEP encryption.

Currently I switched to WPA as that does work properly. But if you can't I hope the above may be of some help.

For what its worth, WPA is working well for me (and, it's a lot more secure than WEP!)

I'm trying to so much the same except I'm sharing my internet connection through my iMac. The One connects sporadically, and never reconnects after a reboot. I've tried using manual IP settings 40 and 128 bit WEP encryption setting on the iMac, Open and Shared security types on the One and more password variations that I care to remember.
Sid, could you spell out your settings for your Airport and the One? This is driving me up the wall.

Oh and another thing. I have noticed that when I enter a 13 character password into the One and later go back to edit those settings the '*s' representing the previously entered password have doubled in length to 23 characters. This doubling also occurs when I enter a 5 character long password. What gives?

The most frustrating thing is that the One easily connects to my neighbors unprotected wifi yet gives me so much trouble.

Nice 30 second solution. I don't know why but this exact process worked with manual IP, WEP and a 13 character password. The security didn't change back to Shared, but I did have to re-enter the password after the One doubled it.

How much detail are you after?

The Airport Extreme is latest firmware.
Create a wireless network mode is set.
Radio channel is set to auto.
    802.11n b&g compatible.
    Connection sharing = bridge mode.
It connects to my LAN using DHCP.
    Security is WPA2
    It announces the SSID.

The One is not the latest bios. (I'm having fun finding a thumb drive that will boot properly)
I set up a new connection in connection manager.
SSID from the drop down list.
    Security is WPA2
    Passsword same as AP.
    Auto connection is on.
