I have the problem of network card disappearing in windows xp.

It only happens when the aspire one is connected to power, and battery is recharging.

As far as I know, it should be a problem of overheating... It never happens when pc is running on battery power...

Turning completely off the pc and then back on will solve the problem... rebooting won't...

By now, when I'm using it in the office I connect to wired lan, but I hope Acer will soon address this problem...

    Hi All,
    FYI
I change the card to an Intel 4965AGN and have been running for about 4 days now.
Everything has been working fine since then so I guess my problem is solved.

    Cheers
    /Andreas

Updating the bios to version 3440 has solved the problem for me, though others have said that it has only helped, not completely fixed their issue. Worth a shot.

I can't get my AA1 wifi work in backtrack 3.

When i type into the shell this:
    Code:
    iwconfig ath0 power 1
    it prints this:
    Code:
Error for wireless request "Set Power Management" (8b2c) :

SET failed on device ath0 ; Operation not supported

and i'm having very hard time with this because i can't even use the Wifi on/off button. and i removed the orginal Linpus lite because i didn't find it useful at all.

PLEASE if someone has solution for this problem, PLEASE tell me it.

I also would like to replace the card with an intel 802.11n card. But it has 3 connectors opposing to 2 on the atheros. Is it possible to use just 2?
I don't want to dissassble the screen in order to add the extra antenna.

It is possible to use only 2 but having 802.11n w/o third antenna is pointless... You can buy flexible antenna from Oxfordtec...

I would recommend Intel cards as all the stuff in AA1 is Intel already (I believe Intel works better with Intel) and drivers are a part of Linux Kernel since couple of months - Intel works out of the box...

I just want to let everyone know that after updating my BIOS to 3304, and installing the new wifi drivers from the atheros site, the wifi not connecting after waking up from standby is now gone. But wifi not working when I start up into XP is still there.
Hopefully, the next updates will fix everything

    FWIW:

I had some Wifi issues, being able to connect at work and my neighbours, but not to my router at home (WT54G).

I noticed that in the list of available networks, everyone that was listed had their router channel less than 10. I changed my routers channel to below 10, and *poof*, I could see my router and connect.

    hmm... I've realised something weird.
It seems that I can connect to my home wifi, but I can't get onto the internet.
I can browse my home network just fine but I can't seem to connect to anything on the internet.
(unless I turn my wifi on/off a few times)
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have the same issue: Since updating to the latest bios, drivers and shuting of the wifi powersave feature I have no longer the problem with disapearing accessspoints but this problem is still there:

Local networking works just fine, but it seems like accessbeyond the first router hop (Ie the dsl router in this case) gets slower and slower to the point where it no longer works.
If I do a traceroute when I experiance the problem I get 2ms to the dsl router but absurd (200ms+) times beyond that. This is at the same time every other computer on the local net experiances no problems at all (15ms+). And it happens behind at least three different brands of dsl router so far so far so I don't think it is related to the router, only the 'one'.
The internet access doesn't seem to die completely, since depending on application it works for different periods of time. Examples is that even after surfing no longer works email and filesharing works but with very long delays and at slow speeds.

It is hard the reasearch the problem too. Sometimes like tonight it works just fine 24h straight, but sometimes the problem is there twice or more the same day.

This problem is hard to figure out!

    Guys,
I'VE FIXED THE WIFI DROP OUTS!!!
Finally! (sorry for the caps, I've been trying to fix this for a longgggggggg time)

Thanks to the comment by Chad_R on http://forum.ncix.com/forums/index.php? ... t_id=31428

All I had to do was disable UPnP on my router and now everything works PERFECTLY.

Will do some more thorough testing later on and report back later if issues start arising again.

For now, I hope this helps everyone.

Wingk - you sure you're on BIOS 3304? Maybe try the default shipped drivers from the acer ftp now that you're on the new BIOS.. My WLAN interface no longer disappears in XP since updating..

For those with issues seeing the BIOS flash program actually run - you should see it confirm the progress of the BIOS update - it isn't just a blank window - that would suggest you are just trying it from the command prompt in xp, which wont work - you need to boot into an msdos/win98 shell - if you dont have a usb floppy drive, i'd suggest using a usb key as a boot device, installing the win98 floppy disk image (from bootdisk.com) and the bios flash batch file onto it, and updating.. it's reported by many to resolve the issue on this thread .. see here viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1477&p=30592&hilit=3304#p26004

Many thanks to the help of those who gave feedback of their results.

I started having this problem since I began testing bios versions 3304 and 3305 a few days ago. I can reproduce it every time by copying a large file (+3 gigs) from my HTPC to the One. The transfer will stall somewhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. I'm testing with Vista Ultimate and the latest Atheros drivers from Windows Update.

Dropping back to bios 3109 completely solves the problem.
