Anyone out there that has a fully functional 751h? With no lockups or issues with webcams?

My 751 doesn´t freeze. Bought the first avaliable in Germany on 29th May 2009. Came underclocked to 1,24 Ghz with 1GB Ram, Windows XP and Bluetooth in the white/black colour.

I went through 3 netbooks already. All of them had the lock up issue.
I sent mine for repair last Saturday. Hoping Acer will resolve the issue.

Just so disappointed Acer makes these kinds of netbooks, and this is a major issue
because you can't even use it for a decent hour.

If mine doesn't get fixed, I will sell it even for a lower price.

Mine works flawlessly, except that it's pretty slow, but that's likely a function of Vista.
I'm going to install XP on it pretty soon....

Mine works flawlessly as well, I installed Windows 7 and fixed my movie problem with Media Player Classic.

No problems with mine so far. Mine came with XP and the only thing I have changed is upgrading the ram and battery, removed all the crapware and I disabled the cam because I don't use it. Wish it was more powerfull because I love the screen size, keyboard etc. I have been watching the Dell11z reviews but my high hopes have started to head south.

How does yours run with XP?

You say your hopes for the Dell 11z are sinking? Why so?

My 751h has no issues and has never locked up. I replaced the hard disk with a 320Gb WD Caviar Black, upgraded to 2Gb RAM and I'm running oc'd @ 1.45Ghz using setFSB. Disk is formatted as a single NTFS partition and I have a fresh n-lited XP Prop SP3 install with paging file disabled. Normal browsing/idle temps for CPU are ~44C but I've run OCCT for an hour or two and had it up to 69C with no stability issues. Webcam works fine and we regularly have 2hr video sessions over skype to the relatives. I can play fullscreen movies from disk without any obvious choppiness but Hulu does miss the odd frame even wit 16bit color - still watchable for short periods - for movies I just drop the resolution to 800x600 and std def Hulu plays flawlessly even over wifi.

One thing I did notice was that it doesn't like me running Acronis True Image Home (beta) that I got for free. It works but you get the odd bluescreen every now and then. I disabled the Acronis startup processes using Winpatrol and have never had a bluescreen since. I just re-enable before I create backup images and then disable again. No biggie - might be because its a beta copy.

    XP runs pretty snappy.

I'm pretty much a Dell person but saw this Acer at Costco and fell in love with the screen size and resolution. Dell did not have a 11.6 at the time. Anyway the reviews on the 11z are just to mixed right now for me but I'm following the threads and waiting to see what options will become available for the machine on the Dell site. I was hoping for a 11.6 that had a processor that was more than "just a tad" better than the 751.

I've had no problems with mine yet. Everything stock on it. I'm running the Vista version.

Glad to hear that about XP, I'm going to reformat mine this weekend for sure. I'm sick of Vista. The OS itself isn't terrible, but it should never be installed on netbooks. The processors really just can't handle it.

I know what you mean about the screen size. I played with my buddy's Toshiba NB205 and my 751 side-by-side, and it was no contest: My 751 is the winner. The teeny screen & low resolution on the Toshiba (10") is just not workable, especially compared to the 751's screen & resolution.

Although the Toshiba does have a much, much nicer trackpad & mouse buttons.....but no multi-touch like the 751.

Dells are way more expensive than most other comparable netbooks anyway. I think the 11z is going to be close to $500, no? I got my 751 w/2GB RAM, 250GB HD for $349 shipped from Amazon.

I wouldn't mind spending $500-600 for a 11.6 that had the power to do more than check email and surf the web without some type of problems. Right now I don't think any of them can. The portability with the power would be well worth it to me. The Dell 11z (which they are calling a laptop) is $449 without options right now. This is with the free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is released. I'm waiting to see what upgrade options will be coming.

My 751h also has never locked up on me. I changed the memory to 2 gigs but I really don't think it has really changed performance. If I was to buy this machine again I would not upgrade the memory. However the bios upgrade really did make a big change. This machine had it's CPU locked at 798mhz. It was only after changing the bios to 3206 that my cpu became unlocked and it now goes up to the 1333mhz it is supposed to go to. Without that bios change this machine was a doorstop. Now with the bios change it is a keeper.

How do I find out what speed my CPU is running at? When I right click "my computer" & select "properties" it tells me 1.33Ghz. Is that correct or might it actually be running at a different speed?

Can you provide a link to the BIOS update, please?

    Thanks!!

160GB. Came with XP. Haven't had any problems with it yet but I did a google on the Seagate HD ST9160310AS and read about alot of problems with this drive. It's a shame the way some people are being treated when they send theirs in for repairs and come back still not fixed and with scratches on them. I think if it was me I would keep sending it back until it was fixed, replaced or given a refund. There has to be something folks can do about this with so many of them freezing up.

Follow their instructions to the point where it becomes almost ridiculous and then inform Acer that you will contact your state's Attorney General regarding consumer fraud and/or misleading advertisement (i.e., lower clock speed than listed, etc.). Epson had to give each customer $50 ($25 cash & $25 merchandise) for disabling ink catridges what were not empty. Selling a computer that locks up randomly is akin to selling a car that periodically dies on a busy highway -- I don't think that what people expect when they purchase a netbook.
