    Hi

i used the search and searched all relevant posts and i couldnt find one i could understand that had the same problem as me, i say problem but i just wanna do something with my laptop without doing any damage

anyway, what i wanna do is get rid of the default desktop, the one with the groups of 3 icons on my desktop (im using the linpus lite still) and replace it with a customisable one like where you can move icons around and stuff (i dont really know the terms which is a little wierd because im doing IT in college :/ i specialise in programming though XD). I wanna do this without messing with the coding too much unless it definitely works and is tested to do so, i dont mind messing a bit but last time i crashed my laptop

also, will the XFCE desktop work like the windows desktop? and can i change from XFCE to gnome and the other ones by switching on the application window?

um, i hope theres enough here for someone to understand what im saying, its kinda late so im tired and have trouble with words XD

    thanks in advance ^_^

    thanks again

    Hi chs1010,

Yes there is a space, and then two - - before daemon

    sudo thunar --daemon

Sorry :( it was late when I posted on that thread and have corrected it now. :)

    Hi chs1010,

I am still looking at this, :? but the blue house show home screen button is visible on the task bar and works for me (single left click). This stays there however you position the bar through the Xfce panel manager. ;)

If I find the solution I will post it or maybe some other user will find the correct file to alter and post. :D I don't spend to much time on experimenting, as I use this box for on the go work.

ah ok, i just usually use the home button on my keyboard because im too lazy to move the mouse a lot of the time XD

and one more thing, not as urgent though so just answer it in your own time if you even want to lol, how do i get rid of that search bar thing? the one that was actually part of the old desktop but now is just a pain in my neck when moving icons around, it gets in the way :/

    Hi chs1010,

Re the Acer search bar try this.

    Open a terminal and type

    sudo mousepad /usr/share/search-bar/start-search_bar.sh

there is a gap between mousepad and /

You should get an 11 line code appear with the first line as ( !/bin/sh )
now just put a # in front of each line so the first line now looks like this

    #!/bin/sh

    Click save and reboot.

This code basically tells the Acer where to put the search bar on the desktop, so by entering a # at the start of each line when this script is now activated at boot the search bar will not appear because you have made it redundant. ;)

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Not sure if this will help as maybe the app itself is corrupted, shut down any running applications or web browsers then navigate here,

    /usr/share/applications

Now look for the main application called word processor and double click it, what is the result?

    Also check its properties.

    Hi,

Before you un install it would pay to check the other open office apps, presentations > spreadsheets etc. to see if they also produce this freeze.

    Re properties.

nah the others dont work either, i dont use them as much so it could have been ages before i realised lol thanks

and my launchers properties are not too dissimilar to the ones in your pic, except it doesnt have a description, as long as it says that its the word processor im ok with that

ive just thought, i updated my fedora packages, could that have made the version of writer and other office tools im using outdated?

    Hi,

Not sure as I have updated fedora and all is fine, but possibly try this open a terminal and type,

    su

sudo yum update openoffice (your version number)

If all fail then a new install might be the quickest way forward.

    Hi,

For the package manager, right click the desktop >system >add and remove programs > list then click search and you should find all the loaded open office applications and languages here.
