    Hi guys,

I'm trying to install windows xp via USB stick. I've followed the instructions here http://www.jcmiras.net/surge/p96.htm as far as creating the USB install disk, and all looked OK. I've now changed the boot order to have 'USB HDD' as the first option...but when I start up the machine with the USB inserted, it boots to Linux as normal.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Gavin

Thanks mate...as far as I can see, the method I've used to create the XP USB is the same as one of those posts...but the problem is that the machine doesn't recognise the USB stick at all. Would it help to try a different USB stick etc?

    Thanks

Possibly yes. Is it a standard pendrive w/o all this super-duper U3 or password protected etc.??

Well, its a combined pendrive/sd card reader. You put the sd card into a plastic device with USB connector, then it becomes a USB pen drive - Have asked my girlfriend to bring home a real pen drive so can try that. Thanks.

    Hi there,
had the same issue using an old USB stick (not USB2).
I solved it using a different stick (actually exactly what you're using.. a 1GB micro SD in converter and in a usb card reader).
Alternatively, remember to format the disk with FAT and not NTFS, BEFORE making it bootable.

    Hope it helps,
    N

Thanks nmesisca - yes, different USB stick did the trick. Now just about to get XP into a useable condition!
