It's a 110, with 1 gb of ram and the SSD. It started life with linux.

Have a look at my other post, you might be interested- it's related. viewtopic.php?f=54&t=9070

Hey daf1, sorry your having problems. I just wanted so suggest you run the activation again. I followed the exact steps I outlined in the text file in the root of the iso. I can download things from the Microsoft website that need validation, so it is working. To be honest, I have no idea why things are differing so much for people :/.

Thanks for your efforts but I've had to give up on it and am in the process of using another XP SP3 - full fat version unfortunately. I followed your instructions exactly (re format of the drive, clean install, execute the bat file, reeboot etc) and have no idea why the validation is not working.

The problem with the Realtek drivers is even more puzzling. I've uninstalled, re-installed etc but nothing works. There must be variations in the hardware builds within the AAO due to different suppliers being used? The fact that the Realtek software is 25Mb in size may indicate this.

As I said before, I'm having the 2 identical problems as daf1. I've also followed your instructions exactly, as far as I can tell. But just to be sure: if we're still seeing the 30 day notification, does that mean it hasn't worked?

    Thanks

Yes, if you are still seeing a 30 day activation period, then the activation did not work. I'll re upload it separately for anyone who wants it.

    Thanks,

By the way, and in case daf1 is still trying to solve this, I was able to fix the other problem involving realtek by finding the missing file (HHCTRL.OC) on another xp machine and copying it in the same place on the new machine.

    Hi

I badly need a lightweight XP that has system restore and task scheduler NOT REMOVED. Is it the case for this one? And is it possible to remove all the added programs? (I only use portable apps apart from firewall, antivirus and Firefox)

    Cheers.

Just wanted to thank the OP for packaging this up, it's working really nicely and saves lots of time modifying our individual copies of XP!
I applied the tweaks from the OCZ Forums to improve SSD performance. (Some of these are already activated in the install)

I also experienced the HHCTRL.OCX error on boot. Used the solution from above (copy file from another XP machine to %system32% on my AAone)
As for activation, I needed to use an alternative solution from the bay which was easily found.

I found I had this problem on the first couple of boots, but I let it download updates and has been OK after that.

Hmm... famous last words. It booted without the error on a coulpe of occasions, but it is now back. Also, it is now asking for activation. I do have a license key to use though so that's not really a problem.

    To ck,

The 'copy file' solution to the HHCTRL.OCX error is easy and worked for tux and I. If you don't have access to another xp machine, you can download the file from

    http://www.ocxdump.com/download-ocx-fil ... nload.html

and place the file in this folder one your aspire one:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32

    Hope this helps

Thanks, I'd just come on here to post the exact same solution, and location, but you beat me to it.

Why don't the OP justget a copy of OEM windows XP pro/home from Acer and then slipstream the drivers. In fact someone has already done this.

This version can be downloaded here from demonoid.
    http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1603404/3100888/

After all, you paid for the windows xp key (the one under your laptop) so obtaining this installation cd is totally legit.

You can also customize the windows xp installation cd by using a program called nlite. I trimed my xp down to 250MB installation size and only require 40MBish ram when AAO first started. I've also embeded the CDkey into the installation disk and made the installation fully automatic (silent install).

Hi guys, just wondering if it is easy enough to install this version from a regular USB stick to an AAO 150? I'm doing it for a friend, so I really don't want to screw it up!! ;)

As the manual install files are there, you should be fine in creating a usb version using this guide.

Others haven't reported problems, but a simple fix is to download the drivers again and reinstall them.

Actually, that version is not a true 'OEM' version, as MS uses the term.

OEM versions of XP have an OEMBIOS file/folder that is customized for the original manufacturer. So, they install without a key (but only to a matching OEM computer) because they check the system BIOS for a special OEM string, and the OS is locked to that string - so it will not work on any other manufacturers computer.

If the instructions say to use the key from the label on your computer (such keys never activate online) and then to make a voice phone call to activate, then it is not a true OEM version of XP. OEM versions are pre-activated, but only work on the one brand of computer - in this case, Acer.
