WindowsXP PRO supports networks, domains etc. Home version does not as it is never connected to proper server - it supports peer-to-peer networks which you can create on every OS... Judge for your self. I have PRO but never used full network connectivity/features as I do not have server available...

i know about the networking features xp pro has over home as all my systems have been using xp pro for years. xp pro on desktop systems is a faster os imo over xp home. ive used both on vanilla builds and notice a difference. im just wondering whether its worth clearing off the oem crud and doing a complete fresh install of xp pro ( assuming i can get all the drivers i would need)

You already know. Just assume you have a computer with four year old specs, a little screen and little keyboard, and then ask yourself what you're planning to do with it exactly, and then ask yourself what you ought to do. No help required.
