XP recovery

    i have an aspire one a150 and now have win7 on it

    some of my programs dont work in it and i cant install xp mode because dont have enough ram can i use my recovery discs to install like a 20(ish)gb partition of the operating system or will i have to install it over win7 and then install win7 again?

    The latter. The recovery disks utilize all of the harddisk.
    So the procedure in your case would be to use the recovery disks, to reinstall XP. Then resize the XP partition down to the desired size, and use your Win7 install disk to create a new partition for Win7, and install it to this partition.
    Win7 should notice the presence of the XP installation, and offer you the possibility to dual boot.

    thanks for your help
    i think i will just install a fresh version of windows xp(took me ages to get it the way i like it after got virus and its just EFFORT)
    the product key on the sticker should work shouldnt it???

    Depends on whether you have a Retail XP install disc, or an OEM install disc. The product key on the sticker on your Aspire One is valid with Acer OEM XP Install discs. If you install from an retail XP install disc or an OEM disc from another manufacturer, then you will be prompted for the product key, which will fail. You will then be offered the opportunity to validate the productkey via phone or internet. This used to work, but might have been changed since I last tried it way back in SP1 times.
