I use "VistaMizer 3.1.0.0" which is a transformation pack and I love it and I haven't noticed any performance issues and it installed without a hitch.

The only part it doesn't change is the start menu, so I may look at the link above too :)

The link above involves manually changing quite a few system files. It takes a while to do, but it is worth it. Its as close to Vista as you'll get without actually installing Vista.

    Try Vista transformation Pack 8.1.

It gives you vista theme, boot screen, login screen, explorer, system properties, everthing mentioned on the first website, 3d flip (optional), taskbar preview (optional), sidebar (optional), Vista Clock (optional), Drive free space, sound, cursurs,..etc

First off all thanks for sharing the above link with us thats great looks as if it could be just the thing for me ??!

okay wonder if you could possibly advise on a couple off things ??

1/ the stardock icon software required to change the icons- seems as if its going to cost or is there a trial versions that will do the job - 24mb in size thats correct for such a simple bit off software ???!!!

2/ bit confused within the first part off the tutorial ie installing the actual new vista theme where it says you copy the contents off the "theme" folder into %..... etc is it a folder that is already on your pc or a folder that was downloaded within the new theme package that you copy the contents into ??

3/ anyone got any screenshots off this particular method ?? to be honest not that impressed with the pics that were on the link just looked like a different wallpaper for xp ?? but do like the idea off its looks like a relativly safe method off getting the vista look on xp.

Just to shake things up I'd like to suggest simply using a visual style. This only affects the taskbar, start menu and explorer, but these are easily changed and require no actual file replacements, so are completely safe. All you need to do is run an app to allow third part visual themes, this only takes a minute or so and only needs to be done once.

UX Theme Multipatcher to allow third party visual styles

Here is a link to a very nice vista visual style

And here it is in action on my AAO

I would always recommend this because it is completely safe and easy (plus I don't like programs messing with windows files :p)

1\ Honestly skip the Icon software and download a custom shell32.dll file from deviantart.com. I suggest this one.
    http://picassa243.deviantart.com/art/XP ... d-95318289

2\ when you download the theme, you will need to extract the file you downloaded to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes.

3\ I dont have any screenshots, because I dont run XP anymore. But I can tell you that except for the search bar on the start menu, its extremely close. Save minute things like the start orb not not being taller then the taskbar. 95% of people are fooled by it.

    I installed this one: www.vistapack.org

Its free and backups all the original content. Transforms all including Taskbar, start menu and sounds. Best of all: no need to install multiple software programs. Just hit the .exe and of you go!

Okay to be honest am kinda happy with the xp wallpaper have on the acer just now, black background with a dark coloured ferrari, black vista style clock all I really want now is to change the icons to something that will really complement the rest off the screen, thinking about all yellow, all red icons to go with the racy look off the ferrari, anyone advise just what package I would require to change the standard xp icons into something like whats required ??

also does an icon package normally change all xp icons or just the basic wndows icons ??

any advice would be great as to be honest am a bit confused by it all now ??!! but again just really want to change the icons and keep the screen the same. does this devianart have whats required ??
