    Hi All
I have an HP photosmart scanner. I installed Xsane using 'add/remove software'
my scanner works fine if I run as root but when I run as 'user' I get "failed to open device 'v4l:/dev/video0': invalid argument"

    my /dev/video0 looks like this:

    Code:
    crw-rw---- 1 user root 81, 0 2008-09-02 18:04 /dev/video0
and I tried giving 'user' rwx permissions.

    any ideas what to do?

Also, does anyone know how to password protect 'sudo su' (and keep everything working). It seems like such a gaping security hole to allow anyone to run anything as root ! TIA
