I tried to play a video on YouTube and got:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

My Java is checked and I have latest Flash Player (10,0,45,2 installed), so why can't I view YouTube video?

    AspireOne WinXPsp3; IE 8 I
    (same in Firefox)

Re: YouTube & Flash Player / Javascript Issue

Yes - this just hit me too. Haven't had it occur on my Toshiba Qosmio laptop though which I've had for 5 years. But I've only had my Acer Aspire 532 for two weeks and now I have this problem.

The issue with YouTube is solely due to Google in its global arrogance of a huge corporation by ignoring thousands of customers reporting this problem. It has been going on for over a year.

1/ The message about installing the latest Flash player, or switching Javascript 'on' is misleading. The general advice is don't do this. Why Google won't change the text is a moot point.

2/ Google have refused to acknowledge that there is a problem despite forums being full of reports and complaints about it

3/ Google have not yet provided a definitive solution

4/ There are hundreds of suggested solutions on the forums - but none are definitive and thry appear to have worked for a few but not all cases

The links to details about this issue are at:

But there are other issues with Flash player - as running on the Aspire One 532.

I also get error messages about an out-of-date Flash player not being able to play embedded videos in BBC and Yahoo news pages. So I click on the link to install the latest version and the videos play OK.

Then I shut the Aspire down. Reboot/restart it. And yet again the BBC and Yahoo videos state that the Flash player needs updating. I've lost count the number of times I've downloaded and installed the 'latest' version. This repeated downloading is wasting my download allowance big time.
