    Hello!
I've just bought an acer aspire one 1week ago, everything is quiet perfect. Quiet perfect because somethings don't work at all.
For example (I'd just mention this subject because it's my priority, and your perhaps), the installations with the command "yum install ****" don't work AT ALL:
    For example:
If I want to install amsn, I tap
    su
    (password)
    yum install amsn

and then...nothing: no window which appear, no information message nor installation progress

I don't know what to do! Does anybody really know the secret?

[PS: Sorry if you don't get my english, I'm just a french boy who doesn't find some answers on french' sites]

Do you type this in a "run" box or in a terminal ?

In case you do not run it from the terminal, try to do so ;) Type

    Code:
    terminal
In the run box (or start the terminal from he filemanager) and then try the su and yum commands again.

If you do run everything from a terminal - please post screenshots.

I've already tapped on terminal, but nothing happened...
When I tap "pirut" in run box, my password is asked, I tap it and then...nothing run: the password window get closed and that's all...

    Did you do
    sudo yum -y update fedora-release

That's necessary now for yum to work with most packages.

It's also possible that the package you're looking for isn't available in the yum repos.

Hrrm... I'm a bit surprised. I'm not sure what's wrong there. Does sudo work in other cases?

As for pirut, I believe it requires the root password rather than a sudo password, but that's untested.

That error message is just a bug in sudo that comes with the original Aspire One (distribution: 1.0.3). Even though the error message comes up, things still work as they should.

    Test it ...

    sudo su -

Does the prompt change to root@. If so that's proof that sudo is working. Type exit to quit as root in the terminal.

    Cheers.

    no response from my yum
    i tried
    yum install xxx.............
    yum clean all

    both as root and user

i think my pirut didn't work because of yum problem too.

any suggestion?should i remove pirut and yum then re-install it again?I'm not sure it's safe because acer modified many thing in linpus.

    PS.I'm quite new to linux.
